Revenge Trades
Revenge Trades counts trades opened minutes after closing a loser while angry, frustrated, sized up or tagged revenge. How Limbix detects them, and the cost.
A trade opened within minutes of closing a loser, while angry or frustrated, sized up, or tagged revenge. The most expensive emotion in trading. Limbix flags revenge trades automatically from your timestamps, sizes and tags. The full rule sits with the other mistake detectors.
How it's calculated#
- prev loser
- The trade you opened just before this one, on any account, closed with net P&L below zero.
- Δt
- Minutes from that trade's close to this trade's open.
- T
- The detector's window: a few minutes.
- sized up
- This trade's quantity is well above your 30-day average quantity.
src/lib/trade-mistakes.tsA trade is flagged Revenge Trade when all three hold:
- The trade you opened before it lost money.
- You opened this one within minutes of that loser closing.
- At least one of these is true:
- you tagged the trade Anger or Frustrated (older imported values "angry", "revenge" and "revenge_mode" also count);
- its quantity is well above your average over the previous 30 days, checked once you have enough trades in that window to know your usual size;
- it carries the context tag
revenge.
Revenge Trade sits in the Emotional group of the mistake tracker: "When the feeling placed the trade, not the plan."
Worked example#
You close an NQ loser at 10:02 for −€300. At 10:05 you open an ES trade and tag it Frustrated. Three minutes after a loser is inside the window and the emotion matches, so the ES trade is flagged, even at your normal size.
At 10:40 you open another trade, also tagged Frustrated. The trade before it was a winner, so it is not flagged.
When it shows "—"#
No revenge trades in the range means no Revenge Trade card on the Mistakes board. The size condition can't fire until you have a short history of trades in the 30 days before a trade, enough to know your usual size. The emotion and tag conditions work from your first trade.
How many revenge trades is too many?#
Zero. Every revenge trade is one you took before the last one had settled. Read the cost next to the count on Mistake Cost.
How to improve it#
- Take the rule Limbix drafts. Select Revenge Trade on the Mistakes board and MAKE IT A RULE offers "No re-entry within 10 minutes of closing a losing trade." See add a rule to a playbook.
- Set a stand-down line so you know in advance when the session is over. See the stand-down line.
- Tag honestly. If you felt it, tag it. The emotion is the condition you control best. See tag emotions on a trade.
Where you'll see it#
- Trade page: a Revenge Trade chip marked AUTO. In the edit view it reads "Entered straight after a loss". See mistakes on a trade.
- Analytics › Mistakes, the Dashboard's Discipline card and the Trade Log mistake filter. See rank mistakes by cost.
Frequently asked questions#
How does Limbix detect revenge trading?#
It checks three things. The trade before this one lost money. You opened this one within minutes of that loser closing. And there is a sign of revenge: an Anger or Frustrated tag, a size well above your 30-day average, or a revenge context tag. Timing alone is not enough. A quick re-entry you planned is not flagged.
Which emotions trigger a revenge trade flag?#
Anger and Frustrated, from the STATE AT ENTRY chips. Older imported values "angry", "revenge" and "revenge_mode" also count. Other states such as Tilted or Stressed don't trigger it on their own. If a trade was revenge and you tagged a different feeling, add the context tag revenge and the detector picks it up on save.
Can I remove a revenge trade flag?#
Not by hand. Detected mistakes carry an AUTO mark and stay, so the record can't be quietly cleaned. If the flag came from wrong data, such as a wrong emotion or a wrong open time, correct the trade. The detectors run again when you save, and the flag goes if the conditions no longer hold.
