Emotional Heatmap
The Emotional Heatmap shows the net P&L of your trades in each emotion you tagged, so you can see which states of mind make you money and which cost it.
For each emotion you tagged, the total P&L of trades in that state — which moods make you money and which drain it. Multi-emotion trades count under each tag, so cells overlap and won't sum to total P&L. Limbix builds the emotional heatmap only from the emotions you tag on each trade. It never guesses how you felt.
How it's calculated#
- e
- One emotion you tagged, such as Calm or FOMO.
- trades tagged e
- Every trade in the selected range that carries that tag, including trades that also carry other tags.
- Net P&L
- The trade's P&L after fees.
src/lib/analytics-compute.tsFor each emotion, the row also shows:
| Figure | How it's worked out |
|---|---|
| Trades (TR) | How many trades in the range carry the tag |
| WIN | Share of those trades with net P&L above zero, rounded to a whole percent |
| AVG … /TR | Emotion P&L ÷ trades |
The emotions come from the STATE AT ENTRY chips on a trade: Focused, Confident, Calm, Cautious, Hesitant, Anxious, Stressed, Fearful, Frustrated, Anger, Euphoric, Tilted and FOMO. "Revenge" is not on the list. It is an action, not a feeling, so Limbix treats it as a mistake and drops it from the heatmap even on older trades that still carry it.
The Emotion × weekday grid splits the same sums by the weekday you opened the trade, in your own timezone. A weekend column appears only if you traded that day. A row total in the grid equals that emotion's total in the list below it.
Worked example#
Five trades in the range, net of fees:
| Trade | Tags | Net P&L |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Calm | +€320 |
| 2 | Calm, Confident | +€180 |
| 3 | FOMO | −€240 |
| 4 | FOMO, Anxious | −€410 |
| 5 | Confident | +€250 |
Net P&L for the range: 320 + 180 − 240 − 410 + 250 = +€100.
| Emotion | Trades | Emotion P&L | WIN |
|---|---|---|---|
| Calm | 2 | 320 + 180 = +€500 | 100% |
| Confident | 2 | 180 + 250 = +€430 | 100% |
| FOMO | 2 | −240 − 410 = −€650 | 0% |
| Anxious | 1 | −€410 | 0% |
The rows add up to −€130, not +€100, because trades 2 and 4 are counted twice. The footer reads HELPING +€750 (trades 1, 2 and 5) and HURTING −€650 (trades 3 and 4). Those two do add up to your +€100.
When it shows "—"#
| What you see | Why |
|---|---|
| "No emotion-tagged trades in this range." | No trade in the range carries an emotion tag |
| BEST shows "—" | No emotion with at least 5 trades made money net |
| WORST shows "—" | No emotion with at least 5 trades lost money net |
| STATE EDGE shows "—" | No emotion with at least 10 trades beats your overall expectancy, or your overall expectancy is not positive |
| A row shows a count instead of a bar | Fewer than 3 trades carry that emotion |
| VERY THIN or LOW SAMPLE badge | Fewer than 5, or fewer than 20, trades carry that emotion |
A verdict word like "worst" needs a sample behind it. Two trades tagged Anxious can be red by one stop-out, so Limbix shows the figure but withholds the label.
What's a good emotional heatmap?#
There is no target number. A healthy map has its gains in the states you trade your plan from and no single state quietly draining them. Watch for two patterns:
- One red row doing most of the damage. The summary board names it in its Biggest leak banner once it has 5 trades behind it.
- A hot cell. The heatmap flags one losing emotion-and-weekday cell with at least 5 trades whose loss is at least twice the typical size of that emotion's other days. The banner reads Hot cell: and offers Drill those … trades →.
How to improve it#
- Tag every trade at review. The footer shows % OF DAYS COVERED and a link to the trades that carry no emotion. See tag emotions on a trade.
- Open the biggest leak. Click a row to see its trades in the Trade Log, or a grid cell to open Drill-down. See read the emotional heatmap.
- Turn the pattern into a rule. If FOMO trades lose, write a playbook rule you can check at entry. See add a rule to a playbook.
- Ask NEX to read it with you. NEX uses the same tags. See NEX prompts.

Frequently asked questions#
Why don't my emotion rows add up to my total P&L?#
Because a trade tagged with two emotions counts its full P&L under each. Limbix does this on purpose: splitting one trade across two states would invent a proportion nobody measured. The HELPING and HURTING figures under the list count each trade once per side, so those two together match the range's net P&L when no trade carries both a helping and a hurting state.
Does Limbix detect my emotions automatically?#
No. The heatmap uses only the emotions you tag on the trade, in the STATE AT ENTRY chips of the trade's Psychology section. NEX can propose setting an emotion on a trade from your conversation, but nothing changes until you confirm it. The notebook's sentiment reads are separate and never tag your trades.
How many trades do I need before the emotional heatmap means anything?#
Each row shows a figure from its first trade. The labels wait longer: a row needs 3 trades before it draws a bar, and BEST or WORST need 5 trades on one emotion. Below 20 trades a row carries a LOW SAMPLE badge. Treat anything under that as a direction to watch, not a finding.
Why is "Revenge" not on my emotional heatmap?#
Revenge is an action, not a feeling, so Limbix counts it as a mistake. The Revenge trades detector flags it from your timing, size and tags. Older trades that carry "revenge" as an emotion still keep it in the raw data, but the heatmap and its filters leave it out.
Is the emotional heatmap on the Essential plan?#
Yes. The Emotions board, its weekday grid, its ranked list and the drill into your trades are available on every plan, Essential included. Pro adds deeper breakdowns elsewhere, such as the Emotional discipline matrix and Violation cost by emotion cards on the Discipline & Risk page.
